Dark mode comes to Google: the search engine begins to show a dark theme on desktop devices
Throughout the last two years dark mode has become popular in different services, applications and even operating systems. Although Google had already activated it for some platforms and their apps such as YouTube, Gmail or own Chrome, we needed to see it in your most popular page: Google Search. Now little by little it is coming for some users.
According collect 9to5Google, dark mode is showing up for some users in what appears to be a Google A / B test. That is to say, they are showing it in different variables for some users just to see what their reaction is and how to improve the final dark mode design.
The dark theme in google search it is what it was actually expected to be: a blue-gray almost black for the background, letters in a light gray close to white, and links in a dark, muted blue. Overall, a color palette that reduces the use of glare and allows for more comfortable viewing in low light conditions.
There does not seem to be any way to force the appearance of dark mode in the search results. Google seems to be activating it completely randomly. For those who are activated, they must be in a dark mode in the operating system and go into incognito mode on Google.
If activated with the above conditions, it is possible to modify its preferences since Google Search settings. There we can choose whether to activate it by default with the rest of the operating system, always activate it or never activate it. Anyway, for now regardless of what is chosen, the dark mode disappears and appears randomly.

Welcome to the dark side
Whether or not as good as advertised, the truth is that the dark mode little by little it has been established in the most popular consumer devices. We have it in iOS, we have it in Android, we have it in Windows 10 and we have it in macOS like operating systems. But we also have it in Chrome, Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp The Instagram between some apps and platforms.
The big problem with dark mode is the incoherence that can occur when the entire system is not adapted or does not do so correctly. This happens for example with web pages, documents or emails among others, that no matter how much the system is in dark mode, these third-party items do not have the dark mode. On the other hand, a poor design and choice of colors for dark mode can lead to worse accessibility, a lack of clear message or misunderstandings in the usability of the product. If Google is taking all this time it is because it is very clear about the caution with which a dark mode must be designed.
