‘Stories to not sleep’ is back: VIS, RTVE and Amazon Prime Video revive the popular Spanish horror series
‘Stories to not sleep‘was one of the most popular television series in Spain between 1966 and 1982. Created and presented by Chicho Ibáñez Serrador and broadcast on Spanish Television, ‘Stories to not sleep’ offered 29 episodes of science fiction, horror and suspense, being one of the most remembered episodes ‘El Asfalto’. A lot has happened since then, but now ViaocomCBS International Studios (VIS), RTVE and Amazon Prime Video have joined forces to bring it back to the small screen.
The new ‘Stories to not sleep’ will be a four-part anthological miniseries with a cast full of familiar faces. For practical purposes, they will be reinterpretations or versions of the original chapters. The first will be ‘The joke’, which is being directed by Rodrigo Cortes (‘Buried‘, among other productions).
The return of a Spanish classic
As explained by RTVE in the statement, the iconic Ibáñez series, who passed away on June 7, 2019, has been created in collaboration with Prointel and Isla Audiovisual. The four directors in charge of the respective chapters will be Rodrigo Cortés, Rodrigo Sorogoyen (known for ‘Mother‘), Paco Plaza (known for’REC‘) and Paula Ortiz (director of’Girlfriend‘and nominated for a Goya Award for “Best Director” in 2015).
The four chapters will be ‘The joke’ (Cortés), ‘El Doble’ (Sorogoyen), ‘Freddy’ (Plaza) and ‘El asfalto’ (Ortiz). Each chapter will be self-concluding and will be about 50 minutes long. The chapters have already started recording in different locations in Madrid. For the moment, what has been confirmed so far is that ‘La broma’ is a “free reworking of Ibáñez’s original story)” with Eduard Fernández, Nathalie Poza and Raúl Arévalo as actors.

It is not the first time that attempts have been made to take advantage of the success of ‘Stories to not sleep’, since in 2005 there were a series of six films based on these stories, ‘Movies not to sleep’, whose success was limited.
