McLaren Artura: the bestial plug-in hybrid that debuts the new V6 engine arrives with 677 hp and connected tires
McLaren is in premiere. The new McLaren Artura hybrid is the first to use the MCLA platform, a plug-in hybrid supercar that abandons the classic V8 petrol engine and opts for the new V6, up to 50 kilograms lighter and with 577 hp of power. Combined with its dedicated electric motor, the McLaren Artura offers a total of 671 CV.
To date, McLaren hybrids had been based on previous models. It is the case of the prohibitive SpeedTail o P1. With the new ArturaMcLaren has reduced the price considerably and intends to produce it on a large scale. A new vehicle to take another step in the electrification of its exclusive catalog.
New chassis, connected tires and up to 330 km / h
The McLaren Artura is built on the new ‘McLaren Carbon Lightweight’ architecture and debuts a new design, with a lighter aluminum and carbon fiber body. In total, this is a car with a curb weight of 1,498 kilograms.
The new 3-liter V6 petrol engine, with twin turbocharger and an electric motor, is chosen for the engine. In total, we get about 677 hp and 720 Nm. In the case of the 95 hp electric motor, you get a touch of 225 Nm and a acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.0 seconds, being able to reach 200 km / h in 8.3 seconds. The McLaren Artura’s top speed is electronically limited to 330 km / h.
McLaren explains that this new hybrid supercar is the most efficient in its history, with 129g / km of CO2. Thanks to the included 7.4 kWh battery, the vehicle can travel up to 30 kilometers in electric mode. According to company data, the McLaren Artura can be connected to the wall and complete 80% of the battery in 2.5 hours.
We have an eight speed transmission, rear suspension and new Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires, which include a company technology that combines software and hardware in the wheels to “generate a high value data stream based on specific tire conditions that is transmitted to Artura’s control systems to deliver the best tire performance “.
That is, a small sensor pack on the wheels that sends the data to the car system and syncs to improve your response.
Inside, McLaren offers connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, through two screens. The vehicle includes the usual telemetry of the brand, from navigation to cruising speed, through a bluetooth key that detects when the driver is approaching and turns on the system ahead of time.
The new McLaren Artura will be delivered from the third quarter of 2020, with a price that varies depending on the market. In Europe, it can be found by 226.000 euros in Germany. Its price and availability have not yet been announced for Spain.
