The Boeing 737 MAX closely watched: satellite technology will allow to know all their movements in real time
Boeing 737 MAX aircraft received in November 2020 permission to fly again after all the trouble and the two fatal accidents that they had. However, they will be well guarded now in the air. The United States FAA will monitor in real time while flying thanks to satellite technology.
The United States Federal Aviation Administration recently partnered with Aireon. Aireon provides satellite monitoring to follow each flight performed by a fleet of planes. With this technology the FAA will be able to receive every day a report on how each flight has gone and notifications of possible anomalies detected.

Tracking Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in real time would not be possible without ADS-B technology. This system used in aviation allows tbroadcast live and via satellite the position of the aircraft that equips it. With this, the aircraft is in constant communication with the management system on the ground and can both communicate its position and status and receive the position of others around it or meteorological information.
Since all the planes that operating on US soil are required to have the ADS-B system, Boeing 737 MAXs come equipped with it. As indicated in Reuters, using this technology the FAA is monitoring each flight the plane makes, checking the performance of the world fleet as the plane returns to service.
Aireon uses a total of 66 low latency satellites in low Earth orbit. These satellites receive data from airplanes regardless of where they are in the world. The information is transmitted from the satellite directly to Aireon’s base, which processes the data and sends it to an FAA management platform.
The advantage of using this type of system is that it allows know in advance when a serious problem may occur. The constant monitoring of the flight allows to know the performance of the airplane and detect possible anomalies to solve the problems in time. Likewise, it makes it practically impossible to lose a plane again in the middle of the ocean.
In the near future, at least for Aireon, all aircraft would be equipped with an ADS-B system that allows you to monitor them in real time. A global network that replace current radar system not so effective in covering the entire globe. At the moment it covers the lines in the North Atlantic Ocean in collaboration with the air traffic controllers of the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
