The professions that are going to be strengthened as a result of the pandemic
Last year, the covid-19 pandemic boosted certain economic sectors and evidenced the need to strengthen the training of more people to work in professional areas that report accelerated growth.
Without a doubt one of the main beneficiaries has been the technology sector, but there are other professions, linked to the direct care of people and automation of processes, which are currently among the most marked trends in the workplace worldwide.

Technology, in the first place
2020 notably strengthened different sectors of the technology area and has demonstrated the need to have a greater number of professionals in some specific fields, as stated by Deisy de la Rosa, dean of the Faculty of Business, Management and Sustainability of the Grancolombiano Polytechnic.

In addition, Alejandro Henao Montoya, manager of Digital Transformation at Sura, affirms that within the business sector there is a greater need for people experts in big data, information security, artificial intelligence and robotics.

“There is a demand for professions related to leveraging people with technology; programming, graphic design and experienced professionals and, of course, social media service providers”, Henao specifies.

The other areas
But, technology is not the only one that sets the trend in this new reality that the pandemic has imposed and in current labor needs. In the business area there are great opportunities for professional development.
“We must promote careers related to finance, with a new type of professional more and better articulated with the other areas of the company. That they have a great ability to manage risks and with knowledge that allows them to move properly with cutting-edge technologies such as blockchain. The great challenge is how and with what tools to complement disciplinary knowledge”, dice Bradford.

Likewise, Henao asserts that experts in the area of basic sciences, such as mathematics and physics, can see a job opportunity in the development of skills that allow the elaboration of analytical models that optimize decision making and services.
Finally, Sura’s Digital Transformation manager highlights that the pandemic showed the importance of professionals in service areas, such as experts in physical and mental health.
The importance of soft skills
Experts agree that the pandemic also evidenced the Need to strengthen the so-called soft skills, which refer to a set of human competencies.

“This conjuncture showed that a balance must be had between hard knowledge and soft skills, this will allow the training of more versatile and complete professionals,” says Bradford.
