Ming-Chi Kuo outlines the iPhone roadmap: no notch, more battery, 120 Hz screen and even a foldable one in 2023
One of the people with the best history of leaks about Apple to date that is undoubtedly Ming-Chi Kuo. The Internet Securities analyst over the years has certainly overtaken Apple’s iPhones. He wants to do it with the next generations too, and predicts Some iPhone if notch, with a better screen, better battery and even a folding screen.
According to a note to analysts to which 9to5Mac has been able to access, Ming-Chi Kuo estimates that This year’s iPhone 13 will be similar to last year’s iPhone. That is to say, a continuous design with rather internal improvements and small polished details.
The note suggests that the 2021 line of devices maintains the same sizes as those launched in 2020, also being a total of four models where two of them are “Pro”. What he would change is that they will be heavier, so he believes that Apple will introduce a new and bigger battery within them to give them more autonomy.
Another technology that we could see in the next iPhone is 120Hz display, something that currently Apple already has implemented in The iPad Pro. Additionally, the display panel would be LTPO to allow constant display of information through “always-on display” mode.
Finally, the mention of a minor notch stands out. The notch of the iPhone has become a hallmark after the disappearance of the front button. Now apparently Apple will try to reduce it by making smaller sensors for the front camera and for facial recognition.
Plans for 2023
The strong changes seem to be saved for two years. Ming-Chi Kuo is used to publishing leaks that are more like confirmations of rumors that have circulated for a long time. This time, however, he is introducing much riskier details and dates. It suggests the complete disappearance of the iPhone notch in 2023 or the introduction of a folding phone.
On another note for analysts to which 9to5mac has accessed, the analyst indicates that Apple is preparing to launch a notchless phone. Instead it will integrate the fingerprint sensor under the screen as an authentication method.
What about the front camera? Come up with two options. The first one is for Apple to use a mechanical method such as a periscope for the front camera to appear. The second is for Apple to use a perforated panel that leaves a hole in the screen just for the camera. Similar to that popularized by Samsung’s Galaxy series.
Finally, the analyst hints that Apple may be preparing to present a flip phone. As he explains, it will be a folding iPhone of 7.5 or 8 inches in size. Although he says that Apple must first solve the challenges of “the key technology of the folding mobile device.” In the meantime, Samsung Y Huawei they are the ones who risk the most in this field.
