Over the past few months, this feature was seen by some users in beta version. But starting today, users around the world will start to receive this new and long-awaited feature.
WhatsApp video calls come to Windows 10 and macOS
These desk calls will work both in portrait and landscape orientation, opening a separate window the size of your computer screen and will always be at the top so as not to be obscured by other windows.
Initially, video calls for Windows 10 and macOS will only be available individually. Group video calls will be reserved for later. The company does explain that, as is the case with mobile phones, these video calls will be end-to-end encrypted.
At the time of this writing, the functionality is not yet available but WhatsApp has officially announced its global availability, so they should not take long to appear.
To be able to make calls from the desktop we will need at least Windows 10 64-bit (version 1903 or higher) or macOS 10.13 or higher. We will also naturally need a computer with a microphone, a webcam if we want to make video calls and an internet connection.
