A liquid-cooled PS5 is not only possible, it’s more compact – that’s how it was created by a group of experts
A group of users has now wanted to demonstrate that it was possible to achieve a more compact design thanks to the “magic” of liquid cooling. The result is striking, and now its creators are considering market this variant.
A marvel of industrial design and modding
The experts at Modding Cafe have long been known for their achievements in the field of PC and console modding, and in a new four-video miniseries they explain how managed to transform a conventional PS5 in one with liquid cooling.
Sony has already made a complete exploded view of the PS5 and explained how one of the key components of that build is the fan system, which consists among other components of a huge 120mm diameter 45mm thick fan that allows a large amount of air to be moved.
That element joins the famous liquid metal which is used as a material to dissipate heat from your processor and a heatsink with a series of heat pipes to keep the temperature at bay. All these elements forced to come up with a design that contained air flow and noise as well, and although the PS5 is silent, it does so with a size clearly larger than the Xbox Series X.
Those in charge of Modding Cafe wanted to apply the advantages of liquid cooling to the PS5, and in that series of four videos they showed that it was possible.
The result was a console significantly more compact than the original, but even so they added two fins that try to give it a finish somewhat more similar to that of the original console, although the final result is of course very different from the design originally proposed by Sony.
Those responsible for Modding Cafe comment on those videos as are thinking of commercializing this transformation process, although at the moment they are only assessing the interest and demand that something like this can generate among users.
Not the first nor will it be the last time that someone makes a modification of the design of the PS5, and months ago we already saw for example that black model with a slightly more “retro” finish in homage to the legendary PS2, for example.
The mobile phone case manufacturer Dbrand already He launched Its fins and front shell have long been in other colors to match, so options for customizing the Sony console design seem to generate interest. We will see if the firm ends up acting against these projects and initiatives no.
