Why does Bill Gates say that bitcoin is bad for the planet?
Microsoft’s billionaire founder Bill Gates has been a multi-year champion of climate change and the risks posed by the fact that measures are not taken in time to control environmental pollution.
The businessman even recently launched his book ‘How to avoid a climatic disaster, where he points out the urgent need for the planet to eliminate 51,000 million tons of greenhouse gases before 2050 to avoid a catastrophe.

Also, recently, in a conversation on the app of ClubHouse audio rooms, the philanthropist also referred to the popular cryptocurrency bitcoin and alerted the impact it has on the planet.
Gates assured that for its operation the cryptoactive spends a very high amount of energy, making it unfeasible from the ecological side.

“Bitcoin uses more electricity per transaction than any other method known to mankind, so it is not something that is environmentally friendly.”, Specified the magnate.
A recent study from the University of Cambridge noted that computer networks that support the bitcoin system consume an average of 129.24 terawatts per hour each year, which would correspond almost to the energy consumption of countries like Sweden.

The British university research also highlights that this cryptocurrency consumes 0.59 percent of all electrical energy on Earth.
Bitcoin has had successful growth in the last year. In recent weeks, the digital currency reached historical values, exceeding 61 thousand dollars per token.
