This is how the most important digital asset of Colombians has done

In the contract signed between the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies (Mintic) and the operator .CO Internet SAS, the State went from receiving 6 percent of the assets to receiving 81 percent, which represents more money for the country and also the commitment to promote this asset.
According to figures revealed by the ICT Minister, Karen Abudinen, Between 2019 and 2020, the number of .CO domain names in the world increased by about 40 percent, and would continue to increase in subsequent years. The domain of Colombia has a particularity and it is that it can be used by foreign companies that associate the .co to company (company, in English), which opens the portfolio for more and more websites to acquire this domain.
“Last year we achieved 51,488 new registrations in Colombia of .CO domains, which represented an increase of 35 percent compared to 2019, when they were 38,034. Abroad we had a total of 1,074,988 new registrations, 34 percent more than in 2019, when there were 799,620. We currently have 2,765,151 .CO domains in Colombia and the world, ”said Minister Abudinen.
Likewise, he explained: “The .CO is our domain name, our country brand on the web and it allows Colombians to strengthen the electronic commerce of their businesses and support the economic reactivation. Our goal before the end of 2021 is to deliver 100,000 free domains for a year to entrepreneurs, MSMEs, merchants and businessmen with an investment of $ 34,000 million ”.
In addition, the official said that this year the Government expects to collect $ 100,000 million for the .CO domain, which would mean more than 300 percent of what was achieved in 2020, when about $ 28,000 million were received.
Likewise, it is expected to train about 500 entrepreneurs, public officials, businessmen, unions and society in general on issues related to the management of the .CO domain and the governance of internet.
“We are recharged to strengthen the .CO domain and internet governance in 2021,” added the minister. The official also highlighted that only in 2020 a total of 1,200 free domains ending in .co were delivered for a year in different departments to the same number of businessmen and entrepreneurs –free of charge–, as well as hosting web o hosting of 1GB, three corporate email accounts and a general design template for the pages.

In that sense, from the ICT Ministry They assure that this year they will make available different calls for 100,000 MSMEs, merchants, productive units and enterprises to register, pass the selection procedures and can benefit from the delivery of free kits that include a .CO domain, hosting web o hosting of 1GB, three corporate email accounts and a general design template for the pages.
The steady growth of web pages using this domain continues. According to GoDaddy figures, as of December 31, 2019, there were 2.3 million .CO domain registrations globally. And, by that same date in 2020, there were more than 2.7 million registrations, a growth of just over 17 percent.
Eduardo Santoyo, general manager of .CO Internet, assured: “In the last year we have seen individuals and companies in Colombia and around the world rapidly transition to the launch and expansion of their online presence driven by our national .CO domains. The operator has offered a global domain platform for individuals and companies all over the world, making it possible to capitalize on the new market demands generated by the global pandemic ”.

In the same sense, from the Mintic, headed by Minister Abudinen, they assure that the growth of the .CO represents an opportunity for the country to continue digitally transforming the regions of Colombia. “The .CO has allowed the ministry to invest in programs that promote the digitization of the business sector and the ICT training of people, since we are aware that the money we receive from the .CO has one objective: to improve the quality of life of women. persons.
