What is Brushing, the reason why many people are receiving seeds and other items without asking for them
In recent months, many people are receiving seeds, masks, and other low-value items, without having bought them in any store. It is a scam known by the name of Brushing. We explain how it works.
Every day we read news from hacks of social networks, online stores, and other Internet services, and we do not give importance to it. Total, I had only put my address, and that is the mailbox and is a public thing.
We see data theft as something very distant, but here we have one of the consequences of these hacks: el Brushing.
Is about a type of scam that sends packages of small value to people, without requesting it, to impersonate your identity and get positive reviews in stores like Amazon, AliExpress, etc.. We explain how it works, and how to protect yourself.
To understand the Brushing, you have to answer this question: What is it that helps you decide when shopping at a third-party store on Amazon, AliExpress, etc.? At equal prices, we all choose the store with the most ratings, and the most positive votes. That means you sell a lot and your customers are happy, right?
Upvotes from a store don’t just help you sell – they also rank your store items high during searches, and those are almost always what people buy.
Blow drying is a scam that involves creating false positive reviews for products in a store.
What the scam shop does is create a customer account using the names and real addresses of people around the world. Sometimes this is done randomly, but in many cases these names and addresses are taken from hacking databases sold on the Internet’s Dark Web, the black market for stolen data.
Through that made up account send a small value package to that person: seeds, masks, appliance spare parts, etc. They are usually sent from another country (almost always China, but also Germany, France …) so that the recipient does not return it.
The reason for this is that the stores put as a condition to accept votes, that the customer has received the order. The scam shop includes in the order form the email confirmation that it has delivered the package, and since the customer account is false and they control it, they write a very positive evaluation of the product, and of the store. That product is not what they have sent you, but a more valuable one, such as mobile phones or mobile cases, since what counts to create the false vote is the confirmation of receipt, not the content.
As he tells us Business Insider, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries has already detected the reception in Spain of at least 14 types of seeds. They are not dangerous in themselves, but ask us not to plant them, because they could be an invasive species or contain diseases that could be transmitted to other plants.
The Brushing is a gotcha mix for users, since they do not steal money, but it is an impersonation, because cybercriminals have created an account in a store with your name and address, and they are writing positive reviews on your behalf, on products that you have never used.
If you receive an item at home that you have not ordered and it seems to come from Amazon, AliExpress or similar, Amazon itself recommends contact the store to track down the scam seller, and kick him out.
