Recycling an old mini system to have sound on the computer has been one of the best tech decisions I have made
One of the things that killed me my setup to work and play it was the sound. The only sound output that I had to date was the speaker of the monitor itself. And I am delighted with monitor meMind you, it looks outrageous and its 144 Hz is a delight, but the sound … Well no, the sound doesn’t.
That’s why whenever I use the computer for anything that requires sound, see attending a conference, listening to lo-fi while working or playing anything, I have to put my headphones on. And let’s see, putting on the headphones is fine for a while, but what do you want me to say, after four hours of playing they end up tiring me.
The problem (as you have already pointed out from time to time when I have published photos in which my work table is seen) is that the table was small. Too small. But now I have a fabulous 170 x 70 oak desk and everything you want to put will fit here. Including an old 2011 LG mini chain that I had at home.
And the sound was made
Total, looking and looking for speakers for the computer, I thought “and why not take advantage of that mini system and its two cucumber speakers for the computer? Total, it’s there laughing and that’s how I take advantage of it.” And that I did. I removed from the shelf my LG AX66 and its two AXS66F speakers of 30W each and put them on the desk.
How? Let’s see, I’m one of those who think that if things work, it is better not to touch them. In principle, it should be possible to connect the speakers directly to the computer Using adapters, but having the original mini-system fully operational, there is a much simpler solution: connect the PC to the mini chain via the jack and configure the PC to be the sound output.
Come on, the only purchase I have had to make has been a cable jack-jack to connect the tower to the minicadena, little more than one euro. The result? As expected, it works like a scandal. It is not a system designed to listen to music in high definition, but it is not necessary either. Who wants that has other options.
In my case, I want the speakers to play (non-competitive things, because playing ‘Valuing‘and games like that do require headphones to hear the steps), listen to music while working without having to wear headphones or simply watch a video without having to leave my ear trying to decipher the sound coming out of the monitor, I do not care.
The stereo sounds good, since the speakers, without being perfect, they perfectly fulfill their mission. The bass has punch, the treble is well represented and playing is amazing. Not like when I play with headphones, some Corsair Virtuoso by the way, but it’s nice not to have to wear them when I get hooked on ‘Destiny 2‘or something more casual.
In short, I am enchanted. It is something that has been almost free for me and that has greatly improved the sound experience when using the PC. I insist that it is not perfect and that it falls far short of what they offer the most powerful sound equipment on the market, but on a gift horse do not look at his teeth. And hey recycle and put old things to a new use that work never hurts.
