The mythical ‘Quake’ is back: the original version, now in 4K at 120 Hz with cross multiplayer
25 years have passed since the release of ‘Quake’, the title of Id Software distributed by Bethesda. A long time, no doubt, for a cult game that is now back and that It has been updated to continue delivering action, shooter, and old-school gore on next-gen gear.
And it is that yesterday Bethesda, during QuakeCon, announced the launch of Improved ‘Quake’. This is a major improvement over the original Quake which is now available on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Game Pass for console and PC, PS4 and Nintendo Switch, as well as on Xbox Series X|S Y PlayStation 5 through backward compatibility.
Not only that, but the Xbox Series X | S and PS5 versions, which will arrive later via a free update, they will feature 4K at 120 native FPS (as long as we have a TV / monitor capable with the necessary technology to take advantage of these advantages, of course).
The same ‘Quake’, but updated and much more complete
Improved Quake, if we can call it that, takes us back to the original story. We are a Ranger armed to the teeth and we have to find the four runes that will give us the power to defeat the evil that threatens all humanity. All of this, of course, while busting all sorts of creatures along the way.
The title includes the original game, the two expansion packs ‘The Scourge of Armagon’ and ‘Dissolution of Eternity’ and the expansions ‘Dimension of the Past’ and the previously unreleased ‘Dimension of the Machine’.
But besides all that, how has ‘Quake’ been improved? On the one hand, it has 4K resolution and wide screen support implemented. On the other hand, the models have been improved, dynamic and colored lighting, anti-aliasing, depth of field have been added and, in the case of Switch and PlayStation, pointed by gyroscope.
The game will allow us complete the original campaign and expansions in co-op mode with up to four players online (there is crossover play) or split screen.
We can also play in games of up to eight players online or four on local splitscreen To kill each other From Bethesda they point out that ‘Quake’ includes dedicated servers for online games and P2P support for custom games.
And how much is all this worth? Then only 9.99 euros. What’s more, if we have Game Pass we can play for free on consoles and PC. The native version for PS5 and Xbox Series X | S will be released later and can be updated for free.
