The increasingly widespread advice not to ruin the next Christmas (or your pocket)
The semiconductor crisis, the price of shipments and the collapse of commercial ports are leading to a radical change in the purchasing strategy this Christmas if we do not want to go bankrupt.
Week by week Christmas is getting closer. It is normal that you have not noticed, it happens to us every year. One day is August 15 and we go on vacation and the next day is Christmas Eve.
It is probably a trick of the brain so as not to notice the one that is about to fall on us. But, anyway, the truth is that it is just around the corner and that the gifts are going to have to be chosen and bought.
According to market studies, 27% of Spaniards will spend more this year 2021 compared to 2020 (probably due to the economic recovery after COVID), and 34% also plan to do it earlier than other years.
And this is the advice that the experts give us: buy Christmas gifts now if you do not want to ruin yourself on the way.
The reason is different from other years, since although stores tend to raise prices for Christmas, this year is motivated by the ubiquitous semiconductor crisis.
As currently everything works with chips, there is a brutal funnel of orders that do not leave the factories because they do not have chips, which causes product shortages, which ultimately causes prices to rise.
This is also added to the transportation crisis, which is having enormous problems moving goods (especially international) due to the lack of vehicles and the very expensive price of fossil fuels. Shipping a container is now 10 times more expensive than a year ago.
For this reason, and with prices rising for a month, Experts Recommend We Get Ahead of December Holiday Shopping and that we make the orders of the gifts that we want to do.
Otherwise we will not only have severe stock problems but also all the gifts we see will be more expensive than before the crisis.
