A majority of Germans are in favor of supplying offensive weapons and heavy equipment to Ukraine in the war against the Russians. 55 percent think it is right to comply with the demands of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. 33 percent are against it, according to the trend barometer for RTL and ntv, which was published on Tuesday. Among the East Germans surveyed by Forsa, a majority of 52 percent rejected such arms deliveries. The supporters of the Left Party (52 percent) and the AfD (75 percent) spoke out against it.

Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens) demanded on Monday that Germany now also hand over heavy weapons to Kyiv. Heavy weapons are tanks, fighter jets, warships or artillery pieces. German citizens are divided on the economically important question of whether Germany should completely do without Russian gas. 42 percent are in favour, even if this would lead to bottlenecks and a significant increase in the cost of gas supplies in Germany. 48 percent are against it. There is a clear majority for a gas boycott among the Greens (61 percent).

A large majority of 84 percent think the West should try to stay in contact with Russia to end the war through negotiations. Only 13 percent think the West should break off contact as long as Russia continues the war.
