+++ Ukraine war +++: Selenski wants to exchange arrested pro-Russian MPs for prisoners of war – US President describes atrocities against civilians as “genocide”
In a resolution, Lithuania’s parliament has called on the international community to supply Ukraine, which has been attacked by Russia, with a large number of weapons. MEPs from the Baltic EU and NATO countries also proposed qualifying Russia’s actions in Ukraine as genocide against the Ukrainian people after an appropriate legal review. The statement was approved unanimously on Tuesday after a video address by Ukrainian President Volodimyi Zelensky.
In his speech, Selenski thanked Lithuania. “They were among the first to come to the aid of Ukraine. And you remain one of those who care most about the peace and security of Europe,” he said. The Ukrainian head of state praised Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, who was present, for being the first to arrange for arms deliveries to Ukraine. Russia launched a war of aggression against Ukraine on February 24.
After Zelenski’s speech, Nauseda reiterated his call for stricter sanctions against Russia: “We must step on the gas pedal as this is the only way to get real results and stop Russia in this inhumane war,” he said, according to BNS agency. “It is necessary to make decisions.” Internationally, Lithuania is seen as an advocate of Ukraine.
