Pebble’s founder wants your help to bring compact smartphones back into fashion

May 18, 2022 technolgy-news No Comments

In a world where large smartphones have become established, there are still great defenders of small screens, as is the case with the founder of Pebble, who wants to bring them back into fashion.

During these last years we have experienced a fairly accelerated trend in terms of the size of smartphone screens. And it is that today, a flagship of any of the companies easily reaches 6.8 inchesalthough it seems to have stabilized as a standard for a couple of years now, luckily.

Although thanks to the reduction of frames and new technologies these same ones have very reduced bodies, are still too big for some peoplewho would have preferred the best frontal use of them while maintaining the size of devices from years ago.

This is the case of Eric Migicovsky, known for being the founder of Pebble, the first smartwatch and the largest Kickstarter project ever known. And it is that Eric seems to have tired of smartphones so big, and He wants those we have longed for years to come back.

Migicovsky tells us that despite being a fairly large person, due to his height and the size of his hands, has never finished enjoying a large smartphone, missing, for example, Sony’s famous Xperia Compact range, which was currently brutal.

Among the factors that determine their preference towards more restrained smartphones is that they fit better in pockets, they are lighter, they can be used with one hand and that thanks to its size they do not fall out of your pockets when you are cycling.

I want a small Android 🤖 phone, but it appears that no manufacturer has the guts to make one. The only way we can change this is if we work together. I wrote a manifest/ode to small phones. If you want a small Android phone too, please check it out! https://t.co/w1enITjlux

It is because of that has created a page in which it seeks that users leave their signature, for iTry to pressure some of the big companies in the market so that they try to launch at least one model that is similar to what the iPhone Mini offers, but with Android.

He tells us that the smartphone of his dreams would be one that does not exceed 6-inch screens, with the size of the body that the iPhone 13 Miniwith cameras at the height and pure Android. With this he would be the happiest person in the worldand not the only one.

Eric tells us that has had to go back to using iPhonewhich it hasn’t done since the original iPhone, because there is no Android smartphone manufacturer company that offers a flagship device under 6 inches.

But he is aware that Apple may end the Mini line, after seeing that they do not sell as much as they would like, which are still quite acceptable numbers for any smartphone from any company, selling 10 million units per year.

iPhone 13 Mini and iPhone 13, analysis and opinion

For my part, I would love to see a smartphone similar to the Nexus 5 which I remember very fondly, perhaps 6 inches and with the body of the HUAWEI 40 Pro. It would be ideal, and that is why I have also personally signed this manifesto by Eric Migicovsky .
