Facebook will allow the creation of up to five accounts simultaneously to maintain semi-anonymity
The platform Facebooknow renamed as Goal, announced that it will introduce options for users to have up to five profiles at the same time, which translates as a paradigm shift from the requirement that the company had to have a “real name” since its inception. “It will help people tailor their experience”, they commented.
Through a statement, Meta reported that the change follows the line of other rival applications such as Tik-Tok or Twitter and its own such as Instagram. “It will help people tailor their experience based on their interests and relationships,” based on “the publication of different types of content aimed at family and friends”says the statement.
Nevertheless, it was clarified that the company will continue with its requirement for each user to have a single Facebook account. Even if only one person is identified as the main profile with the real name of the person.
The way to access the other profiles will be through the “main” account. They also noted that the change will benefit users because it gives them the power to “semi-anonymize.”that is to convert your data in a form in which individuals cannot be identified as other applications do.
Meta was in charge of highlighting that its rules against impersonation and other rates of misrepresentations of identity will continue to apply. to all profiles without modification. In addition, it was revealed that the process is already underway in different countries that they refused to identify.
