The CGT prepares a mobilization to Congress on August 17 against “inflation”
The small table General Confederation of Labor (CGT) resolved today to propose to the board of directors of that trade union center the realization of a mobilization on August 17 from the Obelisk to the Plaza de los Dos Congresos in rejection of “inflation” and with the claim of “unity” to solve economic problems.
This was announced by the CET co-head Héctor Daer at the end of a meeting between leaders of the workers’ union that took place at the headquarters of the Union of Civilian Personnel of the Nation (UPCN).
“The mobilization is going to be presented to the board of directors, but the idea is to go from the Obelisk to the monument to Congress”, Daer pointed out in statements to the media present at the UPCN headquarters.
The union representative maintained that “The reality that we workers, retirees and colleagues who are in the informal sector deserves that everyone put what you have to put to find a way out and let it be as soon as possible”.
The meeting was also attended by the cegetistas co-owners Carlos Acuña and Pablo Moyano, members of the triumvirate that leads the plant, and the union chiefs José Luis Lingeri (Obras Sanitarias), Jorge Sola (Seguro), Gerardo Martínez (Uocra) and Víctor Santa María ( Suterh), in addition to the host Andrés Rodríguez, among others.
As LA NACION learned yesterday, it will not be a strike, despite the fact that there are internal sectors that proposed it, such as some unions linked to transportation. The meeting point is the Obelisksince there is no consensus to activate the claim in the Plaza de Mayo because it would be to point directly against the President, according to CGE sources. The most conservative trade unionists fear causing a political setback to a government that they perceive as weak.
In the Government they took note of the union malaise and at least from the rhetoric work is being done to neutralize the protest. The Labor Minister, Claudius Moroni, reinforced the day before yesterday on Radio Nacional its commitment to review all parity rates that remain below inflation. The annual reference guideline that was set at 60 percent has already become outdated for the cegetista unions, which maintain, according to reports from consultants, that the rise in prices could be between 80 and 90% in 2022.
A letter that Alberto Fernández has saved to seduce the CGT is that of the funds to the union social works. A draft is circulating with a presidential decree to create a National Fund for the Coverage of Basic Benefits in favor of Persons with Disabilities which would be constituted with resources from the Treasury of the Nation. If materialized, the union social works would save some $35,000 million annually, according to the calculations of specialists. This was part of the negotiation of the unions and Fernández not to suspend the act of homage to Perón, 12 days ago, at the Azopardo headquarters.
