Despite the differences, the piqueteros organizations met to define coordinated actions
Social Organizations close to government and others that converge in the opposition Piquetero Unit yesterday expressed their common concern about the serious social scene and the “attacks on popular movements”, in a meeting held with a view to unify next steps to face the economic and social crisis. It was a day after the street closures and the mobilization to Plaza de Mayo, demanding salary increases and plans.
Coincidences are not full when pointing out responsibilities in the face of the offensive in favor of “the criminalization of protest”since while the Piquetera Unit points to the Government and, in particular, to Cristina Kirchner Due to recent attacks, the groups closest to the ruling party point their eyes at the macrismo and the political opposition. This view is expressed, in general, by the Union of Workers of the Popular Economy (UTEP) and the Classist and Combative Current (CCC). The difference lies in the identification of who motorizes this offensive, they admit in the picketer universe.
The most critical position against the Government is expressed in the Piquetero Unit, in which the Piquetero Struggle Front converges, where the Worker Pole and its leader, Eduardo Belliboni; the organization Free-Foot Neighborhoods of the South, the Coordinator for Social Change and the group MST Teresa Lives.
Beyond the differences, all the organizations remained in meet again next Wednesday, occasion in which one could define a mobilization for the following week.
“The objective of the attacks on social organizations is that there are no massive popular protests in the face of the adjustment advances,” he described. Silvia Saravia, c.National coordinator of Barrios de Pie, in dialogue with THE NATION. Thus, he called for careful observation of “the role of the Government.”
Saravia affirmed, meanwhile, that there are coincidences in the deterioration of the social situation and in the need to give “strong answers to these needs”.
For UTEP, its secretary general was at the meetingEsteban “el Gringo” Castro. I do not participate John Grabois, leader of the Movement of Excluded Workers (MTE), who traveled to Catamarca, after having shared last Wednesday in the hall of Constitución station an assembly of the organization, which was attended by Belliboni, the referent of the Polo Obrero.
“In this brutal crisis, which hits the most unprotected sectors, we met with social organizations related to the Government to give a response, both in terms of protest and progress of criminalization of the protest,” he explained. Monica Sulle, c.national coordinator of the MST-Teresa Vive. She thus demanded “genuine work, urgent increases in wages and in the amounts of social programs and their universalization.”
The organizations will continue considering alternatives to face the crisis. The immediate purpose, they revealed, is to define coordinated actions -not necessarily joint- and work on different proposals. For example, the universal basic salary -the main motto of the MTE-, the universalization of the Empower Work program and a “reinforcement of income” of $20,000 per month. “There was an extra payment three months ago due to social deterioration and today the situation is more serious,” commented a participant in the meeting.
Pending definitions, isolated mobilizations will be held next week, such as the march that the MST Teresa Vive will hold on Tuesday at 11 a.m., to the Casa de Jujuy, to protest against the government of Gerardo Morales for “the criminalization of the protest” and in defense of the arrested and convicted Milagro Sala.
