Eat, sleep and walk in the Seven Lakes
Emblematic Argentine circuit, it gathers in just 110 km of asphalt a selection of impressive Patagonian landscapes, accompanied by a wide range of services.
Strictly speaking, it is known by that name to the beautiful and winding route that goes through the RN 40 of Villa La Angostura to San Martin de los Andes. It comprises –according to the most consensual list– Lakes Nahuel Huapi, Correntoso, Espejo, Escondido, Falkner, Villarino and Machónico. However, due to its proximity and size, you can add the city of Bariloche, which is usually the starting point, and several unmissable detours that will depend on time and desire.
The route was part of RN 231 and 234 and in 2012 it was incorporated into the route of RN 40 to reaffirm its importance as a tourist corridor: it crosses forests of coihues, ñires and radales of the national parks. Nahuel Huapi Y The girl Y gives spectacular panoramic views of lakes, mountains and rivers. The stretch from The Portezuelo until Pichi Traful it was the last to be covered with asphalt, in 2015.
Although it is a short journey, there are so many attractions that the trip deserves several stops and can be extended at will. A shortened version is to go along the RN 40 until it joins the RP 65 that borders the Lake Traful and connects with Confluence. If, on the other hand, you have more time, you can go a little further than San Martín, visit the Lake lologJunín de los Andes and do a bonus track to the lakes Huechulafquen Y Paimunfrom where the perfect cone of the volcano The girl. Instead of going back along the RN 40, you can take the detour to the RP 63 gravel road that leads to town Meliquinaa charming town that is going strong and is populating with cabins and inns.
Although it is a very used artery in high season, it is quite narrow, with good curves and a lot of backpackers and cyclists on the shoulders. Advice: drive with caution.

Catamaran excursion from Bahía Brava to the end of the Quetrihué peninsula. The trip takes 45 minutes. It includes an hour and a half stay in the National Park to walk its walkways with qualified guides. It can also be reached by trekking for three and a half hours or by bike (part of the journey must be done with the bike on your shoulder).

15 km from Villa Traful, the Lagos family ranch on the banks of the river that gives it its name has existed since before the creation of the Nahuel Huapi National Park. The fifth generation is still in charge of the 35,000 hectares dedicated to cattle raising and tourism. Guests can participate in milking, making cheese and sweets, fly fishing, trekking to a petrified forest and horseback riding up the stony river for up to three days. There are five wood and stone cabins, far from each other. There is also a country barbecue where they serve roast goat or lamb with vegetables from the garden and improvise guitars.
