Lisandro Martínez, to Manchester United: one by one, the seven Argentines who played for the Red Devils before him
Lisandro Martinez was announced this Sunday by Manchester United and will be the eighth Argentine to wear the shirt of the prestigious England club who wants to return to the forefront of Europe with Erik ten Hag as a new coach. The now former Ajax defender, and a fixture of Lionel Scalloni in the Argentine team for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, he was bought for 57 million euros and is one of the ten national soccer players for whom he was paid the most in history.
“Manchester United is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with Ajax for the transfer of the defender from the Argentine national team. Subject to medical review, completion of player terms and UK visa requirements”, announced the English club in a press release. According to the local press, Lisandro Martínez joins United with a contract until June 2027 with an option for one more season, and the agreement with Ajax would be for 57 million euros plus an additional 10 million in the future.
Martinez began his career in Newell’s, where he was part of their lower divisions. After debuting, and with little filming, he went on loan to Defense and Justice, which ended up acquiring half of his pass. In 2019 he reached Ajaxand three years later landed in the Premier League.
